Flex your leadership muscles and join us for VMS Advocacy Day 2020, which will include a personalized Media Training, a Town Hall Luncheon with Leaders of the Legislature and the opportunity to testify at the Vermont Statehouse. Come to the Capital Plaza in Montpelier on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 to meet your lawmakers and to acquire strategic leadership tools to use to advance your practice and to provide better health opportunities for your patients.
9AM - 12PM We will start the day with a custom media/advocacy training with Carol Kelly, who will not only provide you with skills in group communication and public speaking, but will also videotape you and give you personal feedback on your speaking style. VMS will provide specific 2020 legislative campaigns for you to practice with and interested members can try out their newly acquired skills through testifying on important health care topics in the afternoon. For those of you who have attended Carol Kelly sessions previously, you will receive advanced direction.
12:10-12:50PM Lunch will feature an interactive Town Hall discussion between clinicians and lawmakers, including the Senate President Pro Tem Tim Ashe and House Speaker Mitzi Johnson. The Town Hall will focus on the broad question: "What policy changes can drive the best health outcomes in Vermont?" This discussion is meant to be an interactive conversation with no right or wrong answer. We encourage all of our members to participate in this provocative Town Hall discussion focused on current health care policy debates.
1PM-3PM we will go to the Statehouse of Vermont and seek to testify on issues regarding reproductive health, mental health issues, tobacco flavor ban issues, prevention, workforce issues, etc. in House and Senate Committees. Please let us know if you would like to testify.
