VMS member input is needed on allowing pharmacists in Vermont to prescribe medications. The Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) has been directed by the legislature to “evaluate the costs and benefits of incorporating prescribing authority into the scope of practice of licensed pharmacists.” The study asks for information regarding whether pharmacist prescribing would improve access to care, “relieve burdens on primary care” or reduce “bottlenecks” of care. Physicians and other prescribers are needed to weigh in on whether pharmacist prescribing is appropriate or helpful. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 31st from 11-12 pm at OPR in Montpelier or via video conference. Please let Jessa Barnard at VMS know if you can participate or have questions at email@example.com. Click here to read more about the study.
