VMS is pleased to make available to medical staffs, physician practices and specialty societies any of the following presentations at no cost.

Clinician Well-Being Workshops

Synopsis: Doug Wysockey-Johnson of WyJo Consulting continues to offer no-cost clinician wellbeing workshops to medical staff and practices. These workshops are designed to support clinicians in meeting the demands of modern health care. Workshops are built around Doug’s daily experience working with physicians, nurses, APPs and clinical leaders across the country. These meetings are designed to be efficient, effective and interactive, with topics that directly address the biggest challenges clinicians face daily. The workshops can be adjusted to fit a variety of formats and lasting anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, tailored to your practice’s or medical staff’s needs. Presenter: Our workshops are led by Doug Wysockey-Johnson, a seasoned facilitator with 23 years of experience leading clinician groups. Doug has been partnering with the Vermont Medical Society to provide clinician wellbeing workshops to Vermont medical staffs and practices since 2019.

Wellness Conversations

Synopsis: Explore the value and strategies behind maintaining wellness as a medical professional. Review the prevalence, causative factors and theories regarding physician stress and burnout; review more serious potential outcomes for physicians including medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial difficulties; outline personal and systemic approaches to physician wellness; and discuss VPHP (Vermont Practitioner Health Program) and what it offers in terms of assisting physicians with support, assessment and treatment.

Presenter: Nels Kloster, MD, is the medical director of VMS’ Vermont Practitioner Health Program. He is an addiction psychiatrist and received his M.D. from the University of Vermont and completed his residency in adult psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical Center. He has more than 15 years of experience working at all levels of addiction treatment and psychiatry in Vermont.

Advocacy: Skill Training or Vermont Legislature Update

Synopsis: Nothing motivates elected officials or government administrators as much as receiving authentic, real-life input from their constituents. Your experience caring for Vermont patients gives you a critical perspective on health care policy. Learn effective messaging and communication, using media as a tool, virtual communication strategies. Or chose an update on hot topics in health care that the Vermont legislature is currently addressing and how the bills being considered in Montpelier impact day-to-day patient care and the practice of medicine.

Presenter/s: Jessa Barnard is the Vermont Medical Society’s Executive Director. She has extensive experience in health care policy and regulation and is a frequent speaker on topics including health reform, advocacy, and issues in health law Stephanie Winters is the Deputy Executive Director for the Vermont Medical Society and has been with the Society since 1998. She also is the executive director to many specialty societies and she serves on numerous committees and workgroups with much of her work focusing on public health issues.
